Architecture is one of the most human-centric disciplines in design. The process, which involves creative problem solving and the creation of spaces that are both functional and beautiful, relies on a deep understanding of people and their needs. It’s for this reason that architects have long been interested in how digital representation can help them communicate their ideas more effectively to clients. Today we’ll explore how digital humans and AI interactions can improve the architectural design process by capturing experiences that influence design decisions.

As a designer, you often wonder how your clients and the general public will use the space you design. With digital representation, you can test your design assumptions and uncover what people are looking for in a space. You’ll also be able to see how they react to different features of the architecture that may have impacted their experience positively or negatively.

With feedback from virtual reality and digital humans, designers are able to capture experiences that can influence design decisions. For example, you might have a complex design that involves various levels of wayfinding. One way to find out how people will interact with this design is by using digital representation. You can test in virtual reality if it is clear and easy for people to navigate through the space, or you could even create a fully animated digital human that interacts with your space.

Fully interactive architectural models are now possible thanks to new technology and innovative software. As this software becomes increasingly more user-friendly we will see it open up to more designers. Architects should keep up-to-date with the latest digital trends that lead to better more creative design.

Architecture has a profound effect on our lives, shaping how we interact with the world and each other. With that comes a huge risk of making a mistake in your design. Imagine the impacts of your mistake. Your assumption that leads to the function of a space not meeting its intended solution. By running simulations utilizing AI and digital humans, we have a better chance of realizing unexpected challenges of the space.

Architects must be aware of their surroundings while also pushing boundaries and challenging norms. How can you design an interactive space without ever physically touching it? With feedback from virtual reality and digital humans, designers are able to capture experiences that can influence their designs and push boundaries further than previously expected.

It should be our mission, as designers, to make people’s everyday lives more enjoyable.
