What I Love Most About My Profession: A Residential Architect
It’s not every day I get to work on a project with someone who understands my passion for design and creating things. It leaves me feeling fulfilled at the end of the day, knowing that what I do has an impact on people’s lives.
I love the collaboration with other designers and clients to create spaces that are beautiful, functional, and creative. I also enjoy solving design problems for homeowners who have unique space challenges to solve. Architecture is about bringing your own style into a project — mixing different textures, patterns and forms! Getting the chance to explore materials I haven’t used before.
Every project feels like an opportunity: there’s never a dull moment when you’re always learning something new from your clients or co-workers. It makes me excited just thinking of what each day will bring!

I also enjoy getting to see the designs come alive during construction — it's really exciting for me. The creative process of designing a space is always fun because you never know exactly how it will turn out until it’s finished. Every project has some setbacks but in the end, everything works out and there is nothing more satisfying than seeing your hard work pay off!
Architecture provides you freedom. There is so much creativity to be had in this field and it’s very rewarding working with clients to create something that they can call their own.
This profession has opened up doors for me in many ways, not just professionally but personally too: there are always new challenges ahead which means room for growth! Being able to have such creative control over every aspect of the projects makes architecture one of the most fulfilling professions out there — especially when you get feedback from your client saying how much they enjoy living in their home.
I love the ability to be creative and make something from nothing. It feels good knowing I’m contributing a piece of my creativity to someone else’s life, making their “happiness possible” as Frank Lloyd Wright put it.
